2. ROSTERS

This season we had a few small incidents of players exceeding their AB/IP limitations.

I would like to suggest the following:

A) Expand Minor League roster from 10-15 players to allow more flexibility..
B) Use a flat 40% AB/IP limitation (instead of 38%) to allow for a (slightly) higher amount of both. This will keep real-life part-time players from becoming Strat superstars in a 54-game season. Yet, it will allow for an additional buffer for all.
C) Create penalties that are appropriate to the amount of overuse.

Please vote YES or NO and feel free to discuss...

  1. I'm good with (A). I would like to even consider 45% for (B). As for (C) I could go either way. I would only do penalties for excessive over use. 5% or more over.

  2. We play 33% of a season. By using 40%, we are building in a 7% buffer AND expanding rosters to allow for flexibility. Any amount over the preset buffer would be considered excessive. But I agree that 1 AB vs. 12 ABs should be handled differently. Unless of course that 1 AB was a walk-off HR that knocked me out of the plaoffs. Then you should be shot.

  3. I think we have enough flexibilty with the 10 minor leaguers we have. We may want to reconsider bringing up 5 players as "September" call ups. I was initially against this but am open to change.

  4. I like having 10 man minor leagues. If we expand we will see more JR Towles players making the rosters. With limiting it to 10, you have to limit the amount of 5 inning or 20 At-bat guys you pick up. Opposed to the increase to 15.

I would prefer to stay at the 38% because we are building in the 5% fudge factor, but 40% isn't that much more. Again, my reasoning for this is the same as the above. I would like to limit the amount of Luis Medina's in manager's lineups.

On the final issue I would say create a range of outs/at-bats that your team went over and make the penalty the loss of a certain round pick the next year. For instance, 0-2 at-bats or outs total over the limit loses you a 23rd round pick (remember keeping 10 so only 25 rounds). Then 3-6 at-bats or outs loses you a 20th round, etc.

Obviously, it can be more strict, but that would be an idea of how to deal with it.
